Radon Testing
What is Radon? Why do I need to test for it?
Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that can cause lung cancer. It has been found in homes all over the United States and comes from the natural breakdown of uranium in soil, rock, and water and gets into the air you breathe. Radon typically moves up through the ground to the air above and into your home through cracks and other holes in the foundation. Radon can also enter your home through well water. Your home can trap radon inside. The video below is a good introduction to Radon and its health risks presented by Bruce Snead of Kansas State University.
Can I test for Radon myself?
You can! There are home radon test kits available at local hardware stores. However, these are typically only applicable for a homeowner testing for radon in their current residence. Due to the time constraints for inspections during a real estate transaction, a licensed professional Radon Tester is hired not only to ensure the accuracy and validity of the test results, but also to provide the test results within that small window of time allowed for inspections. NEOH Home Inspections uses state of the art electronic radon testing equipment that is calibrated annually to ensure accuracy and provides immediate test results following a 48hr test.
